Creating a world class workforce in the 21st Century!

There has never been a more exciting time for Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) in Georgia and the Barrow County School System (BCSS) is Boldly Committed to Student Success.  The College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) will replace the No Child Left Behind Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) as Georgia’s measure of educational effectiveness.  CTAE is an integral part of preparing students for college and careers and thus has a role in the performance tracked on the CCRPI.  With a choice of twenty-four different career pathways, students have the opportunity to earn credentials and college credit in almost any career area of interest.
Did you know that in 2010-11

  • 79% of our high school students were enrolled in CTAE courses?
  • 88.63% of Barrow County CTAE pathway completers earned diplomas?
  • 78.83% of Barrow County CTAE pathway completers continued into postsecondary education?
  • 40% of CTAE pathway completers earned a certificate or credential demonstrating industry-recognized skills attainment?
  • 121 students worked in local businesses as interns or Youth Apprentices?
  • 6 CTAE programs had earned industry certification, 4 will earn certification by May, 2012, and another 4 will earn certification by May, 2013.

    JOBS ARE AVAILABLE IN GEORGIA!
Did you know there is a skills trade shortage in Georgia?  See Go Build Georgia-- http://www.gobuildgeorgia.com/ (includes a video message from Mike Rowe of “Dirty Jobs” TV show)

According to Tricia Pridemore, Executive Director, Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, “Governor Nathan Deal and the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development recently launched Go Build Georgia, a statewide program highlighting the need and opportunity for skilled craft labor in Georgia. America’s highly skilled labor workforce is aging, and there are not enough young people entering the industry to replace those retiring. With 16,500 available positions in the skilled trades in 2012, there is an abundance of opportunities for Georgia students, businesses, and educators.”
