Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment provides opportunities for Georgia high school students to take college level courses and earn concurrent credit toward a high school diploma and a college degree. Participation in dual enrollment eases the transition from high school to college, provides students an early start on their college careers, and offers meaningful and challenging academic experiences to qualified students

Any eligible high school student may enroll full-time or part-time in approved credit-bearing college-level courses approved by the State Board of Education. Courses may be taken before, during or after regular school hours on the college campus, online or at the high school. Approved courses may count toward high school graduation requirements.

MOVE ON WHEN READY Opportunities

Move On When Ready is a dual enrollment program that provides funding through the school's Full Time Equivalency (FTE) funding for eligible full-time dual enrolled students. In this program students must be attending college as a full time student only. (Most Georgia colleges offer MOWR to eligible high school students).

ACCEL Opportunities

Accel Program is a program funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education and administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission to assist students who are simultaneously attending an eligible high school in Georgia and taking coursework leading to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree from an eligible post secondary institution in Georgia as a dual credit enrollment student. In this program students can be attending college as a part-time or full time student.

(Most Georgia colleges offer Accel opportunities)

HOPE GRANT Opportunities

HOPE Grant is a program that provides non-repayable grant assistance to Georgia residents seeking technical Certificates or Diplomas from technical colleges and other eligible post secondary institutions. The Hope Grant Program is funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education and administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission. In this program students can be attending college as a part-time or full time student.

(Most Georgia technical colleges offer HOPE Grant opportunities and Lanier Technical College provides local opportunities for students.

Lanier Technical College offers HOPE Grant opportunities in Winder:

WBHS students who are at least 16 years old and in the 11th or 12th grade can receive high school and technical college credit by completing a dual enrollment course at Lanier Technical College in Winder. Courses are offered during 4th period. The schedule allows for ample travel time from the high school to Lanier Tech campus. The following programs are offered at Lanier Technical College/Winder Campus:

The Welding program prepares students to fuse metal objects together. Students learn to read blueprints and determine the best process for welding, based on the thickness and type of material. Students will earn a Gas Metal Arc Welding Certificate by successfully completing 2 semesters of coursework.

The Drafting program prepares students for rewarding jobs in residential drawing, CAD, machine drawing, and jobs with manufacturers of building products. Students will earn a Drafting Aide Certificate by successfully completing 2 semesters of coursework.

The Certified Nurse Assisting program provides educational opportunities to students that will enable them to care for individuals in a healthcare setting under the supervision of a licensed nurse.  Students will earn a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Certificate by successfully completing 2 semesters of coursework and all program requirements.

The Clinical Lab/Bio-Lab Technology program prepares students for the high-growth, high demand industry of clinical lab and biotechnology research. The students will learn laboratory skills, problem solving, and scientific procedures. Students will earn a Clinical Lab/Biotechnology Assistant Certificate by successfully completing 2 semesters of coursework and all program requirements.

Tuition and partial textbook costs are covered by the HOPE grant.  (Your high school grades are not a factor when applying for the HOPE grant.)  Once you are accepted into Lanier Technical College, you will pay a $15 application fee.  Each program has other minimal costs for supplies or materials.
