Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year in Barrow County!
The Barrow County Schools Teaching and Learning Department facilitates the implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards, assessments, professional learning, and
learning resources to support standards based teaching and learning. The department also coordinates the following programs/areas:
We work collaboratively with all schools and all system leaders to support the key focus area of the district – Teaching and Learning. The goal of the department is
to promote and support teacher and leader effectiveness to improve student learning in every classroom in the district.
School and system leaders have analyzed data and identified three areas of focus from the Standards-Based Classroom High Impact Practice Rubric from the Implementation
Resource. The following three areas of focus for the district were identified collaboratively and agreed upon by all school and system leaders participating in the 2010-2011 Leadership Summit.
- Feedback
- Assessment
- Differentiation
Classroom observations and monitoring of the three areas and standards based classroom instruction are accomplished using the Barrow County Schools Focused Walk
tools. The walk-through tool and the expanded walk-through tool can also be accessed on the Leadership Summit Wikispace.
The Leadership Summit Wikispace houses the documents and resources from our annual summit. You can also access information at the links below.
Barrow County Schools’ website and Private Label Wikispace are used to store curriculum maps, benchmark assessments, standards based report cards, rubrics, and
learning resources. The Barrow County Wikispace is also an on-line collaboration tool for teachers and leaders.
There are also several tools that the district uses to assess, evaluate, and reflect on our work. The School Keys outline expectations for school performance and standards-based education. They are measured using the Georgia Assessment of Performance on School Standards.
The Teaching and Learning Department is excited about the 2011-2012 school year! Please contact us for support.
Best regards,
Claire Michael Miller, Ph.D.
Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning
