Georgia State Raider Competition

We look forward to hosting you on Saturday, October 22nd, at Ft Yargo State Park (210 S. Broad St/Hwy 81, Winder, 30680) for the Georgia State JROTC Raider Challenge Meet. Students report in Barrow County on August 8th, and you may begin to check the Winder-Barrow High School JROTC website at http://www.barrow.k12.ga.us/wbhs/teacher4/rotc/rotc.htm as we will work to keep updated info about the State Raider meet posted. There is also a link there to Ft. Yargo so you can familiarize yourselves with the park before you arrive.
Memorandum of Instruction/Standard Operating Prodedures: The authorized MOI for the meet will be published in early September 2011.
Registration: Each school may field one team in each category—male, female, and mixed. There is a charge of $75.00 per team with a $150.00 cap charged per school. There will be a cap of seventy (70) teams total. Checks should be made payable to BULLDOGG BATTALION BOOSTERS. See the attached registration form for pertinent details. The registration period will close when 70 teams sign up; last year that was by mid September. We had to turn some schools away so please don’t wait if you know you plan to attend.
Camping at Ft. Yargo: There is space for approximately 225 cadets/instructors at Ft Yargo; many of you stayed there last year. There are toilet facilities, and we are also bringing in 8 port-o-lets so that should be adequate (but primitive!). You will all be in Picnic Area #2 of the park. Eric Bentley, has been promoted and is no longer the head park ranger. We did reach an agreement however that camping is $1 per person per night. so please feel free to drop him an appreciatory email at eric.bentley@dnr.state.ga.us. You will need to contact the park directly to place your reservation at 770/867-3489. This will be a first come, first served basis.
Staying at Apalachee High School and State Raider T-shirts: To be determined.
Pre-Ordering Food: Our WBHS Baseball Booster Club will again be providing meals to be pre-ordered as well as serving concessions during the day on Saturday. PLEASE SEE THE ABOVE MENU ATTACHMENT. Restaurants/Hotels: Ft. Yargo is in the city limits of Winder and only one mile from The Jameson Inn (9 Stafford St., Winder, 30680, 770/867-1880); they are giving a reduced military rate of $60 per night to JROTC folks so make sure your parents/fans mention that if/when they make reservations there. The Best Western (177 West Athens Street, Winder, 30680, 770/868-5303) is located a short distance away also. There are several fast food restaurants near the park (McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc). One of our BOE members and staunch supporters owns the local nearby Arby’s and provided special meals/prices for JROTC folks last year; we expect he will again and will get you that information.
