Scope students went on a field trip to DriftwoodNatureCenter on St. Simon’s Island February 16th – 18th. Students attended seven classes over the
course of the trip. Instruction focused on enrichment in science and social studies. The weather was great, and the temperature was warm enough for classes to go seining in the ocean. Students caught fish, a blue
crab, jellyfish and a ray. During another class, students dissected sharks. While learning about herpetology (reptiles), students held a corn snake and a king snake. In another session, students
focused on building teams, problem solving and cooperation to accomplish a goal. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed learning in a nontraditional classroom setting.
