The Barrow County curriculum is based on educational standards established by the state of Georgia. Teachers develop plans and gather resources for teaching the
standards. How well students have learned the standards is assessed by the Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT) which is administered each spring.
The Georgia Department of Education sets the curriculum standards for courses taught in the state. The Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) describe the updated
learning expectations for students. School systems across the state have been transitioning from the former curriculum, the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC), to the GPS. The phase-in plan as well as a multitude of
curriculum resources may be found on the Georgia Department of Education web site, www.georgiastandards.org
