Holsenbeck names Swiney Incoming Principal

Jason Swiney

Jason Swiney has been named the new principal at Holsenbeck Elementary for the next school year. The Board of Education voted their approval on January 26, 2021, to replace Jackie Robinson when she retires at the end of this year.

Mr. Swiney's thirteen years of administrative experience has equipped him well to lead at Holsenbeck. He comes to BCSS from Liberty Elementary, where he worked for six years as Principal. Last year, the Toccoa Record also selected him as "2020 Best Principal in Stephens County."

"I am excited for the opportunity to join and lead the Holsenbeck Elementary family. I look forward to meeting our Holsenbeck students and parents, working with a great faculty, and contributing to the continued and future success of the Barrow County School System," Swiney said.

Mr. Swiney completed his Master's and Specialist in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University. He completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Sewanee: The University of the South, plus a semester in England at St. John's College.

During his 22 years working in education, Jason found time to become a published author, penning his first novel in 2014 titled Called Upon. He has also led several basketball teams and athletic organizations over the years and was named 2014-15 NCCAA Southern Region Coach of the Year.

BCSS is excited for Jason Swiney to join our school system as principal at Holsenbeck Elementary.
