Each month, the Barrow County Alternative Education Program Administration wants to take the opportunity honor and recognize our hard-working teachers and staff members. These teachers and staff members are invaluable assets, and we are so glad to have them as a part of our team!

August 2020: Mr. Jim Jones & Mr. Quentin Ladson
A Message from Administration: "Mr. Jim Jones is our high school English instructor who thinks critically about how curriculum can be used and supplemented to best meet the needs of the students at BCAEP. Mr. Jones raises expectations for all students to help them achieve at the highest level possible. He communicates consistently with families and other teachers to help foster a community- even while learning digitally."
A Message from Administration: "Although Mr. Ladson is new to our school in the role of the middle school English/Language Arts teacher, he immediately took a leadership role in helping other teachers with digital and technical needs and has been organizing our school website. Each day, Mr. Ladson always has a positive, sunny disposition. Quentin is an educator who thinks creatively to help push our faculty forward. In addition to his teaching duties, he continues to support students at other locations of the county through coaching cheerleading."
September 2020: Ms. Kathy Peters & Mr. Todd Black
A Message from Administration:"Ms. Kathy has been a valuable part of the BCAEP safety and cleanliness plan. In her role as day custodian, she keeps all areas of our school clean. Her diligent response with ensuring that each area of the school gets the attention it needs is why we have been able to keep Covid-19 out of our building thus far. She leads by example with her willingness to help out in many different ways. We love Ms. Kathy’s kind and helpful disposition! It is a shining example for all of us of how we need to conduct ourselves daily."
A Message from Administration: "It is easy to describe Mr. Black because he does so much for the BCAEP. He is a servant leader who supports all of his colleagues with instructional and organizational support. His impact can be felt from the offering critical instructional support all the way through moving and setting up computer stations for coworkers. We are lucky to have him serve as our high school team leader. He has a “Let’s Get It Done” demeanor that makes him enjoyable to be around."
October 2020: Mrs. Tiffany Martin & Mr. Stephen Foster
A Message from Administration: "Ms. Martin has proven that she is all about kids because she serves students in so many capacity at the BCAEP. She serves our At-Promise population with reading support so they will be able to function more effectively within each of their core classes. You can often find Tiffany working one-on-one with students and using teaching strategies that help them understand and retain information. Her influence in our overall climate in the BCAEP is immeasurable too because she leads our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program and helps to ensure that all staff members are knowledgeable about ways to positively impact our students. Tiffany is a dynamic educator who has a bright future."
A Message from Administration: "If the dictionary was a photo album, then Mr. Foster’s picture would be the representation for the word RESOURCEFUL. Stephen is always there when you need him. His ability to problem-solve and come up with plans to help move the BCAEP in a positive direction has been on display continuously throughout the school year. He is a wealth of knowledge and a great person to be around. His ability to lead with conviction, yet garner the support of others is what makes him such a special person. If you can’t figure something out, take it to Stephen and he’ll add help you until the solution is found. We are thrilled that he consistently chooses to be a part of the BCAEP team."
November 2020: Mrs. Karen Buchanan & Ms. Mandy Byrd
A Message from Administration: "Ms. Buchanan provides additional support to our students and is never afraid to take on a new challenge. She incorporates engaging technology and helps our middle school students with a variety of content areas. She has a “Can Do, Will Do” attitude and her sense of humor and levity help foster a great sense of community among her students and colleagues. Ms. Buchanan is always willing to dive into something new and does it with a smile on her face."
A Message from Administration: "Ms. Byrd is our communication specialist. She helps our families and our staff with anything they need. She gives our BCAEP students and parents warm and friendly service. She also takes care of many of the organizational and management items that are needed to run a successful school. We are truly blessed to have her serving the needs of our school community; and we know that she is more than a qualified person to receive this Employee of the Month recognition."
December 2020: Ms. Jennifer Rude & Ms. Kelly Purcell
A Message from Administration: "Ms. Rude may be incapable of living up to her surname. She is all smiles as she helps our students in middle school social studies and science classes who also serves as a Super Sub when needed. Ms. Rude comes into the building each day knowing she may be called to perform any number of duties, and she excels at all of them, whether she is working individually with students, engaging an entire class, or even handling tasks for the front office. Her organization an great attitude make her an asset to our team."
A Message from Administration: "Ms. Purcell brings a teamwork attitude to the Barrow County Alternative Education Program every day. Her ability to organize our special education department and provide other worthwhile programs such as our school garden and our recycling program makes a worthy recipient of the BCAEP Employee of the Month recognition. She is a joy to work with and she always thinks about what’s best for students. We are lucky to have her on our staff."
January 2021: Mr. Corie Tarbet & Mr. Jeff Williams
A Message from Administration: " Mr. Corie Tarbet is very deserving of the Employee of the Month recognition for the Barrow County Alternative Education Program (BCAEP). He works tirelessly to organize our high school social studies curriculum and team while supporting the efforts of our program. His attention to detail and intentional efforts help the BCAEP serve our students’, staff and our community’s needs. His leadership with the English Language Learners program and leading our progress meetings is exceptional. He has even taken the initiative to help design and co-lead our new mentoring program for each of our students. We are proud to have him represent our school, because he does great work for the BCAEP."
A Message from Administration: "Mr. Williams, our middle school social studies teacher, creates engaging and relevant learning experiences for our students. He has a natural ability to calmly approach any situation and is always willing to help out a colleague in need. In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Williams helps monitor our at-promise students' academic growth. He also promotes our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program by providing stellar students with break time in the gym."
February 2021: Ms. Shekilia Green
A Message from Administration: "Ms. Shekilia Green embodies what you look for in a school counselor. She is caring and compassionate towards our students and works to mentor them during their time at the Barrow County Alternative Education Program (BCAEP). She intentionally schedules time with each student, so she can make a personal connection with them that shows that they are cared for. Her work with scheduling students and aligning the family, character, and academic resources for each student has been stellar. She organizes the BCAEP rewards distribution for our Positive Behavior program. Ms. Green also helped to develop and currently co-leads our new mentoring program that connects every student with a staff member as a mentor throughout their stay at the BCAEP. We are lucky to have her serve our students, families, and school in this capacity."
March 2021: Mr. Lamar Stanfield
Mr. Lamar Stanfield has been a model for instructional consistency who finds pleasure in helping his colleagues achieve their goals too. As you enter his classroom, you find him consistently working with students one-on-one. His use of instructional technology within the classroom has helped many students meet their academic goals. We are lucky to have him at the Barrow County Alternative Education Program.
April 2021: Mrs. Kelley Scredon
Mrs. Kelley Scredon is a pivotal part of the BCAEP staff. As our Assistant Principal, her impact reaches every area of our school. She leads important BCAEP initiatives and helps each staff member by answering questions and supporting their needs. The alternative school program would not be the same without her. In a very short amount of time, she has made herself a “go to” player and is loved by our staff for it.
May 2021: Mr. Gordon Purcell
Mr. Gordon Purcell came into the Barrow County Alternative Education Program this Spring 2021 semester and has proven himself to be a professional and dedicated support for our teachers and students. His commitment to leading instruction and supporting our virtual learners was evident within his first few weeks. The effort he gives on a daily basis is commendable and will continue to help us improve as a program.
