Annelle Brunson

8th Grade Social Studies Teacher

Nellie Brunson joins the BASA team as an 8th grade social studies teacher. Her passion for Georgia Studies can be seen in her recent master’s thesis on women’s politics in the Civil War that features Elizabeth Church Robb, an Athens native and a Barrow family ancestor. She comes to Barrow County having helped teach U.S. History for two years at the University of Georgia, while earning her graduate degree. She is also a double dawg (woot, woot!!), graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and minor in history. Teaching Georgia Studies, Nellie is excited to bring her historical and economic interests to the classroom!
Nellie loves empowering young people through volunteering at educational summer camps, mentoring and tutoring programs, and babysitting her neighbors. This September she will gain the title ‘aunt’ to her only brother’s sweet baby girl. She enjoys visiting her family in Augusta, day hiking in the North Georgia mountains, and baking cinnamon chip scones!
