SCHEDULE

  • All Barrow County Schools, except Apalachee High School, reopened Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Apalachee High School began a phased reopening on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024. From Sept. 24 – Oct. 4, students will attend school for half days to help them ease back into the routine at a comfortable pace. We plan to return full-time after Fall Break on Oct. 14, 2024. For more information specific to AHS, see “when will AHS reopen?” below.

As a reminder, any final plans will come directly from Barrow County School System. Please continue to visit this page and email updates for the latest information.

  • In addition to our current safety and security layers such as School Resource Officers (SROs) who serve our schools, the Centegix Crisis Alert system, security vestibules, visitor management system, and digital locking systems, we immediately added extra law enforcement officers at each campus. The Board of Education voted to add eight additional SROs and classroom phones at the September Work Session and October 1 meeting. We are also discussing possible additional layers of prevention and security and will release details about that as we can.

    How Can I Help?
The Barrow Community Foundation, a local non-profit agency, has been a valued partner of the Barrow County School System (BCSS) for several years.

The Barrow Community Foundation has established a designated fund, the "Barrow Community Crisis Fund," to collect donations and support those in need during this time. Grants from the fund will be distributed by a committee of community leaders to organizations, including the Barrow County School System (BCSS), as well as other local agencies and non-profits. The fund is intended to ensure a collective recovery for the entire community.

If you are interested in supporting our community during this time, please fill out the forms below and we will be in contact.

  • Families are encouraged to communicate with their child's school directly.
