BCSS Soft Lockdown Lifted

11:15 a.m. Update to Families

BCSS Family,

The soft lockdown at all schools is now lifted. All students and staff are safe. Law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of each school that received a threatening call. Those schools included County Line Elementary, Yargo Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, Winder Elementary, and Apalachee High School. The Central Office also received a call.

Our Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and BCSS are collaborating with the FBI, GBI, and GEMA to identify the person or people responsible for these phone calls. They say none of the threats were credible and were prank calls.

Two deputies will be stationed at all BCSS schools for the remainder of the day. Activities will go on as scheduled.

Parents may check out students at this time.

We are grateful for your cooperation, trust, and understanding as we worked to ensure the safety of students and staff. We appreciate the swift actions of our law enforcement and their partnership.

Thank you.

10:30 a.m. Update to Families

BCSS Families,

Thank you for your patience and trust while law enforcement continues to investigate the threatening calls to our schools. We remain on a soft lockdown at all schools to ensure the safety of students and staff and allow law enforcement to do a security check. All students and staff are safe inside the buildings.

Please remember, during a soft lockdown, student checkouts and visitors are not permitted. As soon as investigators give the all clear, we will send another update.

8:50 a.m. Update to Families:
All BCSS schools are on a soft lockdown this morning as law enforcement investigates a series of threatening calls to several schools. BCSO is sending additional security to each school. All students and staff are safe.

Please do not go to your school as it will jeopardize the investigation and security of the campus. During a soft lockdown, please understand, no student checkouts or visitors are permitted.

We will update as soon as we have more information to share.
