About the Horizon Program

The Horizon Program (formerly Barrow County Alternative Education Program) was established in 2003 to accommodate the educational and behavioral needs of students that cannot be correctly addressed in a traditional school environment. We provide a flexible and diverse program with an emphasis on the development of divergent thinking skills and creative problem solving where students benefit from a shared wealth of knowledge, training, and diverse life experiences from their teachers that is presented in ways to promote student learning. With a student-teacher ratio of 16:1 for grades 6-8 and 14:1 for grades 9-12, students are provided with individualized instruction which allows teachers to facilitate and guide students through the learning process.

Vision Statement:

We will provide students with opportunities to improve behavioral, social, and academic skills that facilitate their transitions into school and community settings, enable them to become successful, responsible, and contributing citizens, and facilitate the efforts towards their aspirations of the completion of graduation requirements.

Classes: 8:30 a.m. - 3:35 p.m.
Office Hours: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
