Grad Track Spotlight: Jaiana Redding

Grad Track - Jaiana Redding

Jaiana Redding is an Apalachee High School senior who is working hard to achieve her goals. She is diligently taking care of her responsibilities so she can attend Georgia Gwinnett College to pursue a degree in either nursing or education. She is finishing the Teaching as a Profession pathway and has been doing her practicum at Yargo Elementary School. She had always thought she would become a nurse, but her practicum has shown her how much she likes working with kids.

Jaiana will be the first to tell you math is not her favorite subject. Despite her best efforts, she did not do well in either Algebra or Geometry. This put her behind in her math credits early in high school. She had to go to Foothills to recover the Algebra credit and slowly started to figure out that she could be successful in math classes. She also realized that to be successful, she needed to utilize the resources and support available to her.

Jaiana found her biggest supporter in her Algebra II teacher, Katie Brown. Ms. Brown, who works both at Apalachee and Foothills, started working with Jaiana to make sure she mastered the math material. This meant some one-on-one tutoring sessions at Apalachee and at Foothills. Jaiana worked hard to make sure she was understanding the concepts and mastering the material. This led to her passing her Algebra II class and finishing the Algebra class at Foothills. Jaiana said she would not have been able to do it without Ms. Brown’s help.

Jaiana always reminds herself that when she has a tough day, she knows tomorrow always provides an opportunity to pick herself up and work harder.

We are proud of our students who are on the “Grad Track.” A Grad Track student has either failed one or more academic classes and/or is behind in credits needed for graduation with their cohort class. Graduation Specialists at all three Barrow County School System (BCSS) high schools support students who meet these qualifications.
