Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy (BASA) senior, Jordan Crawford was added to the Grad Track caseload at the beginning of her sophomore year after failing 9th Literature and World Geography her freshman year. During her sophomore year she worked hard and even though she failed Chemistry her first semester, she was able to retake it and get a B her second semester. Following her sophomore year, Jordan has worked hard and passed all her classes.
After realizing her future career goal would involve higher education after high school, Jordan became determined to focus on school and do well in her classes. Not only has she proven that she can overcome adversity, she also has excelled by taking college level classes at Lanier Technical College through the Dual Enrollment Program offered at SIMS Academy. She now has a Certified Nursing Assistant certification and is employed part time with University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Athens, GA. Jordan plans to take a GAP Year and work full time and gain valuable experience in the field of nursing before starting the registered nursing program at Lanier Technical College. Jordan enjoys helping others and providing quality care for her patients.
Jordan’s BASA American literature teacher, Emma McClure shares, “By the time I taught Jordan, she had already figured out that if she did not put forth effort in school, she wasn't getting out. She was very honest with herself and me about her desire to graduate. She showed up when she did not want to, and she would ask questions to ensure she understood the material. She had her sights set on getting into the nursing program while I was her teacher, and I was impressed with her dedication to getting her work done in order to pass her classes. She did not let her downfalls from freshman and sophomore year keep her down, and I am impressed with all she has accomplished.”
BASA math teacher, Kevin Kennedy says, “I have had Jordan in three different classes. I have watched her grow into a responsible, dedicated student. One of the things that I appreciate about Jordan is that she is not shy about letting me know when she doesn’t understand something. Students like her are an asset to my class.”
Former BASA Academic Interventionist and CREW Leader, Hope Bush elaborates, “Jordan Crawford is a true example of a Never Give Up Spirit! No matter how many obstacles were in her path, she persevered through her hard work, dedication, and belief in herself! I am so grateful to have been a part of Jordan’s academic journey and life! Congratulations Jordan!”
Jordan is a perfect example of a Grad Track student who has exemplified that hard work and determination can make a difference. We at BASA are very proud of Jordan and can’t wait to watch her walk across the stage at graduation in May of 2024!
