Curriculum Assistance

The Curriculum Assistance Team is composed of highly qualified Special Education Teachers and Paraprofessionals whose primary responsibility is to provide academic, behavioral, and social emotional support to students served in special education grades 8th-10th at Barrow Arts and Science Academy (BASA) and the following programs CTI, STEP, and YES. Each identified special education student at BASA is provided a transition driven Individualized Education plan that targets their specific academic and behavioral needs in the following areas Autism, Emotional Behavior Disorder, Other Health Impaired, Specific Learning Disability, and Speech or Language Impaired, etc.

In order for students to meet the criteria for special education consideration, a multidisciplinary team completes a Comprehensive Evaluation on the student and provides recommendations to the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. The IEP team determines the student’s eligibility. If the student is determined to need specially designed instruction, the IEP team provides the exceptional student the most appropriate educational program and placement in the least restrictive environment. The Georgia Department of Education establishes standards and regulations for such placement.

The following special education service delivery models are offered at BASA to students served in 8th-10th grades:
