Barrow County School System School Board met and/or exceeded the criteria set forth by the Georgia School Board Association (GSBA) to earn the honor of a 2023 Exemplary Board. The School Board for Barrow County Schools has earned this recognition every time this award has been given to system boards.

Kirsten Bradford
District 1

Kirsten Bradford moved to Barrow County from Atlanta 17 years ago where she raised her 3 beloved children, Daniel, Isabella and Ingeborg. She lives in Bogart with her husband Eric and their wonderful pets.
Kirsten grew up in a military family and lived across the US, Germany, France, and England. She graduated from Boston University with a degree in English and European Literature.
Kirsten baked bread and pastries for a number of well-known Atlanta and Athens area restaurants before setting up Kiki’s Bakeshop in Watkinsville nine years ago. Since that time, Kiki’s has grown into an established member of the local business community.

Jared Callaway
District 5

Jared Callaway is a dedicated resident of Barrow County, where he has lived for 13 years. A graduate of Stockbridge High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Liberty University. Jared served 16 years as an infantryman in the Army, participating in two combat deployments before medically retiring in 2018 due to combat-related injuries.
In 2020, after seeking guidance on his next steps, Jared became the parent mentor for the special education department at Barrow County Schools. Over four years, he has worked to bridge the gap between families and school staff, promoting student success.
Jared is actively involved in the community, mentoring over 20 students across the district. He is also a member of the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce and participates in the Leadership Barrow class of 2025. Jared is married to Tina Callaway, and they have three children: Stella, Liam, and Emerie. The Callaways are active members of Bethlehem Church.

Dr. Darlene Carey
District 6

Dr. Darlene Carey is the Vice President of a local lodging accommodations venue near downtown Winder. She was recently elected to serve and represent District 6 for the Barrow County School Board.
Dr. Carey retired from healthcare in 2022 and her past roles included leadership, strategic planning, education, policy governance, and stakeholder collaboration. Additionally, Dr. Carey had fiduciary responsibility for over eight hospital nursing departments, encompassing multi-million dollar budgets. She also served as chair and vice-chair of hospital and national practice guidance committees, as well as the advisory committee for the Center for Disease Control.
She is active in multiple organizations and community groups, including serving as an Ambassador of the Barrow Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Barrow Area Rotary Club, Leadership Barrow Class of 2025, and a member of Bethlehem Church.
Dr. Carey graduated from Three Rivers Community College with an Associate of Science in Nursing (2003), Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2010), a Master of Science in Nursing (2013), and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (2019). She and her husband, Daniel, live in Winder and have eleven children and ten grandchildren.

Holt Etheridge
District 2

Holt Etheridge was elected to represent District 2 and serve on the Board of Education beginning in 2025. He attended Holsenbeck Elementary, Winder-Barrow Middle School and graduated from Winder-Barrow High School. He graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Since then his work has been in the development of shop floor planning and execution software for the aerospace and defense industries and support of the software's customers.
Holt will be a third generation school board member following in the footsteps of his grandfather Dr. E.H. "Doc" Etheridge and his father E.H. "Skeeter" Etheridge, Jr. His great-grandmother Hattie Dunahoo Hill was one of the first teachers at Holsenbeck School, and there are many other family members that are current or past educators in the Barrow County School System.
"I want to help the education system as I believe I am best suited - I will question, I will investigate and I will look for the best path forward."
Holt is married to Laura and they have two children, Carter and Clarke. They attend Saint Matthew Catholic Church and Rockwell Universalist Church, where he is the caretaker and treasurer. He is a board member of the Barrow County Cooperative Benevolence Ministries assisting in the warehouse logistics and food distribution of the monthly community distribution and the monthly BCCS Feeding Families Program distribution.
"I have a desire for community service and to have a positive impact on our local community, children and families. I want to ensure the needs of all in the school system are being met - to be the voice for the students, parents and educators alike."

Kayla Hendrix
District 7 At-Large

Kayla Hendrix was appointed to serve on the Board of Education in February 2023. She has resided in Barrow County her entire life and matriculated through Winder-Barrow High School in 2011. She went on to graduate from the University of Georgia in 2014 with a double-major in International Affairs and Political Science. She has spent the last six years working in higher education at the University of Georgia where she advances the mission of the university by supporting students, faculty, alumni, and corporate partners. She is passionate about public service and policy, and she is most excited to give back to her community by working to advance the learning environment for students, support educators, and be an advocate for the taxpayers of Barrow County.
In her spare time, you can find Kayla cheering on the Bulldawgs in Sanford Stadium, trout fishing in the North Georgia mountains, or on a ball field doing what she loves most - watching her son, Brayden, play baseball. She attends Athens Church and leads a girls’ college small group through the church weekly. She values quality time with family and her labrador retriever, Duck.

Beverly Kelley
District 4

Mrs. Beverly Kelley has lived in Barrow County since 1992 and was previously elected to the Barrow County School Board in 1999 and served two terms. She was re-elected in 2019. She and her husband Clay have been married 37 years and have three grown children (one is an educator) and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Kelley has been a partner in education with the schools in the past as well as a corporate sponsor with both high schools. She has also been a mentor in the school system. She has remained heavily involved in the community and with local and State politics.

Renee Lord
District 8 At-Large

Renee Lord grew up in the small town of Hiawassee, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia. She started her career as a teacher before joining her husband, Kelly, to help run their family’s diesel truck repair shops, where she now serves as Director of Operations.
Renee is a proud Rotarian, Master Gardener, and member of the Young Life Board, with a heart for giving back to her community. She and Kelly have three children: Rebekah, married to Hector with a daughter; Helmut, married to Jessie; and Ava Grace, who is studying finance at Georgia Southern University.
Renee’s passion for education led her to run for the District 8 Seat on the Barrow County Board of Education. Inspired by the opportunities her public education gave her, she’s committed to helping students, schools, and the community make the most of their resources.

Paige Maddox

Paige Lanier Maddox, the youngest of 5 siblings, grew up in Albany, Georgia. She attended UGA and graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. Paige relocated to Statesboro in 1994 where she raised her two daughters. She completed a master’s degree in counseling/education at Georgia Southern University. Paige’s family then moved to Early County where she began her career as a school counselor.
In 2002, she completed her education specialist degree from Troy State University and headed back to north Georgia where she began her career in Barrow County School System. She worked as a school counselor for 12 years until she obtained a district position as the Title I Parent Engagement Specialist. She worked for 5 years in that position then began working for the Georgia Department of Education for two years, training school districts in parent engagement programs.
Paige is also a retired National Certified counselor, National Certified School Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and founding board co-chair for Young Life Barrow. Additionally, she served on the University of Georgia’s Safe and Welcoming Schools Advisory Board, Treehouse board, and Family Connections Board. Paige married Winder native Chris Maddox in 2017. Together, they have 5 children and 3 grandchildren. She enjoys gardening, interior design and community engagement.

Lisa Maloof
District 3 | Board Chair

Lisa Segars Maloof is a life-long resident of Barrow County. She graduated from Winder-Barrow High School in 1982 and earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Georgia. Lisa retired in 2018 from Lanier Technical College, after a 32 year career in the Technical College System of Georgia. For the last 16 years of her career, she served as the Campus Dean of Lanier Tech’s Barrow County Campus. After a short retirement, she returned to work as the Economic Development Director for Barrow County.
Lisa served on the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce board of directors for three terms and chaired the board in 2007. In 2015, she was named the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce Businesswoman of the Year. She is a Rotarian and member of the Winder First United Methodist Church. Lisa is married to Keith Maloof and they have two sons, Tyler and Tanner. Tyler and his wife, Dana, have two young children. Tanner and his wife, Laura Beth married in 2018.
