Weather Watch: No Jan. 31 Activities

We are closely monitoring the next round of winter weather expected this weekend for our area. Based on the forecast and after consulting with local emergency teams, all extra-curricular activities for Saturday, Jan. 31, have been canceled.

Any decision concerning our Monday school schedule will be shared with families no later than Sunday evening through email/text messages, our websites, social media, and local media stations. If you are not receiving our direct messages, please check your contact information in the Parent Portal.

Partners in Education

The Partners in Education program is a voluntary and collaborative relationship between an organization and the Barrow County School System for one year. This program began in 1991 as Akins Ford and a handful of businesses joined forces to develop partnerships that would link the community and the school system. This is an opportunity for businesses and schools to work together on a common goal: giving children a well-rounded education. Partnerships directly benefit students by giving them “real-world” experiences and incentives to help them excel.

As a school system and community, it is imperative we work together to bring the best of both worlds to our children. The time and resources you have to offer are invaluable.

    Nicole Valles has worked for the Barrow County School System since 2019, when she was hired to manage digital communications, including websites and social media. She was promoted to Director of Communications and Engagement in October of 2023.

    Before BCSS, Nicole worked as a Digital Marketing Strategist and Web Content Editor for both Piedmont Healthcare/Athens Regional and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Prior to that, she was a TV news producer for six years at WSAV-TV in Savannah.

    "Making sure our students, staff and families know about the important information and successes happening at our schools and programs is a priority for me. I am happy and grateful to continue sharing amazing Barrow BOLD stories!"

    Nicole and her husband, Andrew, have two children - both graduates of Apalachee High School.
