2026 STAR Students & Teachers

Congratulations to our 2026 STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) students!
These outstanding seniors earned the highest SAT scores in their schools and rank within the top 10% of their class. It was inspiring to hear their stories and learn about the teachers they selected as the most influential in their academic journey.
Created by the PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) Foundation, the STAR program unites educators with the business and the civic community to honor academic excellence. Thank you to the Barrow Chamber of Commerce, with the sponsorship of Beckett & Associates Investment Services and Peach State Federal Credit Union, for hosting the annual breakfast.
Congratulations to our 2025 STAR Students and Teachers!

During the ceremony, Seth shared thoughtful reflections about his academic journey and the teacher who made the greatest impact on his success. Hearing his story highlighted both his dedication and the support he’s received along the way. He selected Mr. William Threadgill, his former middle school band director, as his STAR Teacher in honor of the time, dedication, and encouragement Mr. Threadgill poured into him over the years. Seth shared that Mr. Threadgill continually inspires him to become a better musician and has played a meaningful role in his academic and artistic development. We are incredibly proud of Seth and the mentor who helped shape his journey.

Keely Schmook plans to major in applied biotechnology at the University of Georgia, with the long‑term goal of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Keely selected Band Teacher Mrs. Cheri Schreibman as her STAR Teacher because of the meaningful and lasting impact she has had on Keely’s life. Mrs. Schreibman’s encouragement, leadership, and belief in her students have played a significant role in Keely’s confidence and success.
Winder-Barrow High School STAR
STAR Student Josie McElhannon selected Band Director Dr. Ashley Floyd as her STAR Teacher in recognition of the encouragement, confidence, and support he has provided throughout her musical journey. Josie shared that Dr. Floyd’s influence has played a meaningful role in helping her step out of her comfort zone and discover her voice both as a musician and as a student. “If you can tell, I am pretty quiet,” Josie said with a smile. “But in band, I didn’t feel like I had to be quiet. He showed me that I could play loud and out.” Dr. Floyd’s belief in her potential helped Josie grow not only in skill, but also in self‑expression—something she will carry with her well beyond the band room.
