Weather Watch: No Jan. 31 Activities

We are closely monitoring the next round of winter weather expected this weekend for our area. Based on the forecast and after consulting with local emergency teams, all extra-curricular activities for Saturday, Jan. 31, have been canceled.

Any decision concerning our Monday school schedule will be shared with families no later than Sunday evening through email/text messages, our websites, social media, and local media stations. If you are not receiving our direct messages, please check your contact information in the Parent Portal.

    First BOLDer Together Meeting Shares Key Topics with Families

    Barrow County School System’s first BOLDer Together meeting on Aug. 30 offered families a chance to connect with district and school administrators to discuss their child’s education and learn about curriculum and topics related to well-being.

     

    Superintendent Dr. Dallas LeDuff opened the event with a message for families. “Thank you for joining us for our first BOLDer Together engagement session. Your participation and feedback truly make a difference in the partnership we share concerning our common goal of helping children grow, achieve, and succeed.”

     

    The August session focused on changes to elementary school grading and gave guidance on developing homework and study habits. The School Social Work team and Project AWARE Mental Health Clinicians provided valuable information about what it means to care for the whole child. All presentations are linked on the BOLDer Together web page in both English and Spanish.

     

    Students from Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy’s National Honor Society and Apalachee High School’s National Science Honor Society used the opportunity to earn volunteer hours. They helped set up and clean the room, greeted families, and even enjoyed participating in the activities.

     

    BCSS District Partner in Education BankOZK generously provided refreshments for those in attendance and participated in the event as parents. BCSS is grateful for their support and dedication to student success.

     

    Join Us for the Next Event

    The next BOLDer Together session will be Sept. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Central Office at 179 W. Athens Street in Winder. Plan ahead and add future events to your calendar.

    BOLDer Together: Family Engagement & Understanding MAP Scores

    During the November session of the BOLDer Together Engagement Series, families learned innovative skills to foster creativity in learning, thanks to the fantastic team from ArtsNow. This session provided valuable resources and strategies families can implement at home to enhance their child's educational experiences like incorporating the ABC game or Remember That game as fun family activities to help with homework.

    In recognition of Family Engagement Month, families were encouraged to participate in creative learning activities to incorporate at home. Attendees gained insights into understanding Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Scores, empowering them to better support their children's academic growth.

     

    We appreciate ArtsNOW's district partnership with our schools, their sponsorship of the #BOLDerTogether Series, and for sharing several innovative teaching and learning strategies with families during this session.
