Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy Athletic Complex Update

rendering

The Barrow County Board of Education is considering the next phase of growing the athletic program at the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy (BASA). BASA currently offers several sports like baseball, softball, track, and soccer but doesn’t yet have the facilities on the property to host games or practices.

At the April 29 Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent of System Operations Joe Perno recommended Cunningham Forehand Matthews and Moore Architects, Inc., to begin designing an athletic complex for BASA.

The complex will offer additional opportunities for extracurriculars as BASA continues to grow and will include the following:

  • Baseball field
  • Softball field
  • Stadium for track and field, soccer, football, physical education class, etc.
  • Gymnasium
  • Support facilities to include concessions, press box, locker rooms, etc.

Mr. Perno says when planning began for BASA years ago, a phased approach was necessary. This last piece to expand athletics will complete the high school campus. The timeline for this project is three years from design through completion of construction.

The Board will vote on the recommendation at the May 6 meeting.
