Congratulations on taking the next big step in your future! Dual Enrollment is a fantastic way to earn free college credits, leave high school with valuable, work-ready certificates (like welding, automotive, construction, etc.) or up to an entire first year of college classes finished BEFORE high school graduation!
Your first required step of this journey will be for you and a parent or guardian to attend a Dual Enrollment Information Meeting. We are offering three options to meet everyone’s needs:
- Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy Cafeteria
- Friday, Jan. 28 at Noon report to the Sims Academy front office for the specific location
- Saturday, Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. in the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy Cafeteria
You and your parent/guardian only need to attend one of these events! If you are worried about attending in person, you may request an online meeting by emailing email@example.com. At the end of your meeting, you will learn about the next steps, like getting accepted to the college you want to attend and how to get funding. These events are the only way to move forward with this process, so make plans to attend one of these meetings!
Why is it required my parent/guardian and I attend one of these meetings?
Dual Enrollment is a great opportunity, but it has some serious “gotchas.” First, we want to make sure you and your wise parent/guardian have the opportunity to hear all about the program so you can make a wise decision about participating. Also, the process of getting accepted is confusing and talking you both through the steps will make the process a little easier for everyone. Last, we want to take all students through the process together over a period of a few weeks to reduce confusion, last-minute procrastination problems and poor communication.
If we missed all these meeting opportunities or did not attend an online presentation, did we miss the boat on dual enrollment?
Potentially, yes. Life happens and we have to take things into consideration sometimes. Go to see your counselor and share with them why you need one more chance. We want to see you have this opportunity, but much of the life of a dual enrollment student centers around task completion and tending to requirements. This meeting is the first step of many “hoops” to jump through with college!
What are you going to cover at this meeting?
We will teach you about Sims Early College and why this is a great option for a dual enrollment student. We will also introduce you to exciting new opportunities students have to earn certificates in Nurse Aid, Welding, Automotive, Construction, Culinary Arts and Core Academics. Whether you plan on taking dual enrollment classes through Sims or not, we will teach you about the processes with applications, how classes at college work, strategic tips on skills that will improve chances of high performance in dual enrollment classes and so much more!
