Nutrition and Food Science Certification

Apalachee High School is proud to announce that Nutrition and Food Science Pathway now holds Industry Certification in the state of Georgia. Under the direction of the instructor, Brooke Lewis-Slamkova, this program received a $10,000 grant that was used to update classroom and lab equipment. She created a digital portfolio documenting three years’ worth of student accomplishments, lesson plans, technological enhancements, and FCCLA awards. She also hosted a team of advisory board members, FCCLA officers, and current students for the evaluation team’s approval.

Mrs. Cheryl Hambrick, Georgia Department of Education Director of Nutrition and Food Science stated, “this honor is attributed to all your hard work and perseverance in this undertaking. This honor of distinction among the elite NFS programs in the state of Georgia.”

This designation certifies that Apalachee’s Nutrition and Food Science pathway offers outstanding opportunities to students who receive instruction through this program and also offer positive benefits for schools as well as employers in the community.
