Message to Families about September 4, 2025

love prevails

AHS Family,

Thank you for partnering with us to have a successful and encouraging first few weeks of school. It is fantastic to see our students eager to be together, participating, and engaging in lessons and activities.

It’s that togetherness that will help us through the best of times and the most difficult of times. As we approach one year since we tragically lost our beloved students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and cherished teachers, Cristina Irimie and Ricky Aspinwall, we will remember those we lost and honor the courage and resolve of our Chee community.

At the one-year mark, we plan to be in-person for students and staff who need support and want to be together. In addition to the opportunities below, students will check in with each class period, but no new content will be delivered.

It will be a school day – but not a typical school day. We plan to make it a day of giving back, receiving support, and growing closer with one another. A Day of Prevailing Love.

For students in attendance on September 4, 2025:

  • We invite them to participate in a morning community service project.
  • Guest speaker Chris Singleton will offer an uplifting message for our students.
  • There will also be opportunities for students and staff to participate in healing and wellness-focused activities and mental health support sessions in the afternoon.
  • Let’s show our Chee pride and plan to all wear blue and gold that day. I know many students and staff throughout our district will be showing their support for AHS, as well.

There will also be a community-led vigil planned for that night at 7:00 at our flagpole.

Early next week, we will share more details about the day and a form to sign up for service projects. The form will also offer you a way to let us know if you plan to keep your student home that day. Completion of the form will serve as the parent note to excuse your student’s absence, and the absence will not count against their final exam exemptions.

Thank you for your support, love, and compassion as we journey ahead as best and as strong as we can.

Love,
Jessica Rehberg, AHS Principal
