Dr. Chris McMichael Honored with 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award

The University of Georgia's Mary Frances Early College of Education has awarded Barrow County School System Superintendent Dr. Chris McMichael with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Practitioner Award for distinguished alumni.

The award recognizes a graduate and leader who has made a significant impact through his or her service, contributions, and accomplishments.

Some accomplishments Dr. McMichael has led that were noted in the nomination include:

  • Barrow BOLD – Building Our Learning Differently – branding and philosophy
  • Graduation Rate Improvements
  • Creation and Implementation of Arts and Sciences-based programs and schools (Arts and Innovation Magnet Program, Center for Innovative Teaching and the Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy)
  • Barrow County Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year for 2021

Several BCSS employees wrote letters of support for the nomination. One wrote, “Dr. McMichael’s ambitions, intelligence, and accomplishments precisely complement the stellar community of past recipients and make him highly deserving of the honor and opportunity bestowed by the Alumni Awards.“

Dr. McMichael will be recognized at an awards ceremony in April. Congratulations!
