Center for Innovative Teaching
To accomplish our mission statement of "ensuring an exceptional education that leads each student to become a high achieving and responsible citizen," the Barrow County School System intentionally grows its teachers and students by supporting innovations in both teaching and learning.
The nexus of the system’s support for innovation is our Center for Innovative Teaching (CFIT) located at 84 West Midland Avenue in Winder. Within the CFIT campus, students, teachers, and other stakeholders have access to unique and flexible creative spaces such as the district's first Black Box Theater and Dance Studios. These spaces have served as points of inspiration and research for system-wide projects like the Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy, opening August 2020.
Other innovative spaces at CFIT include the 5000+ square foot Ed Morrison Makerspace & Discovery Lab, dedicated theater and visual arts classrooms, music technology lab, several large meeting spaces, and an Innovative Learning Garden supported through partnerships that include UGA Grow It, Know It, and the State Botanical Garden's Connect to Protect Program.
