Summer 2025 Tech Update: Returning Devices

computer

BCSS Families, please read below for information from our IT Department concerning the process to return district-issued devices for the summer.

1:1 Chromebooks:

Elementary School students typically will not have a district-assigned Chromebook at home (See Exception #1 below for ECF-funded device), but if you have one checked out from the school, it should be returned before leaving for summer break.

Middle School students should return their district-assigned Chromebooks before leaving for summer break. (See Exception #1 below for ECF-funded device.)

High School students should keep their Chromebooks over the summer.

  • Exception #1: Students (all grades) with Chromebooks funded under the Emergency Connectivity Fund or ECF program (given out at the board office primarily during the first year of the COVID pandemic) may keep the devices over the summer per the terms of the program.

  • Exception #2: Graduating Seniors and students otherwise leaving the district should return their district-issued device to their school.

  • If you have an ECF Chromebook that you no longer need, please return it to your school for reassignment. We have noted that some ECF Chromebooks have not been used in almost a year.

  • If you are uncertain if your Chromebook is ECF-funded, please ask your school.

Hotspots:

If you have a district-issued Internet hotspot, and are no longer in need of it, please return it to your school for collection. If it still has service and you are still in need of it, you can hold on to the hotspot for as long as needed.
