Must Read: Updates for Returning to School on August 3

July 20 Back-to-School Update

[Español] On August 3, we’re #BacktoBOLD as students return for the new school year. Below are a few updates and reminders you should know.

COVID-19 Update

BCSS carefully monitors our local COVID-19 spread levels in the community and at our schools, including the potential impact of COVID-19 variants. We are prepared to respond quickly to a rise in cases with increased mitigation practices, such as a change in mask requirements at a specific school.

BCSS also continues to follow the guidance, requirements, and mitigation measures from the CDC and Georgia Department of Public Health for COVID-19.

  1. Schools are required to contact trace and quarantine/isolate exposed or sick students and staff. For COVID-19 cases, exposed staff and students will not be required to quarantine when they provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination.
  2. In BCSS buildings and on school buses, masks are recommended but not required for the 2021-22 school year. Non-vaccinated students and staff should follow the CDC guidelines regarding mask usage and wear a mask based on your individual situation.

Open House

We're excited to welcome students and families back to our schools for Open House! Please review the 2021-2022 Open House schedule for your child's school. Parents will not be allowed to walk students to their class on the first day of school, so please plan to attend open house to help your child find their way.

Distance Learning Deadline

Please note the deadline for students (grades 7-12) to enroll in digital learning through the Barrow Online Campus for the 2021-22 school year was in May. We are no longer accepting transfers to digital learning. For students who do not return to in-person learning, here are some options.

School Supplies, Transportation Routes, Student Meals

You can view school supply lists, transportation information, and other back-to-school information here. All students will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge from our school cafeterias this year. Please contact your child’s school for any additional questions.

Vaccination Clinic

On Wednesday, July 21, the Barrow Department of Public Health is holding their Back-to-School Clinic from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for children age 12+ at the Barrow Recreation Department. Available on-site vaccines will include Menactra, Tdap, Hep A, HPV, & COVID-19. No appointment is needed, but a parent must be present. See what immunizations are required for your child.
