Clubs

Westside Middle School offers many Clubs for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade.

Art Club Art club provides enrichment opportunities in the visual arts in a relaxed environment. In depth study of different media, with a focus on process and experimentation, gives students a more rich experience in the arts. Both individual growth.and collaboration are encouraged. Mr. Troy Authement Art club activities this year will include painting, mixed media art, printmaking, and sound art.
Beta Club The purpose of Beta Club is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership and service among elementary and secondary school students. Mr. Cody Williams In the Fall, we focus on team building & character growth. In the Spring, we host a community service project.
Academic Bowl Academic Bowl is a quiz show style competition in which students buzz in to answer questions from a variety of academic disciplines, including literature, history, art, science, mathematics, and geography. It showcases the achievements of students and encourages them to learn the skills of sportsmanship and teamwork. It also introduces students to an extracurricular they can continue pursuing through high school and into college. Ms. Jenna Riddle Practice each week and several NAQT Competitions on some Saturdays throughout the year.
Future Farmers of America (FFA) FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Ms. Mary Claire Payne FFA Meetings, career development events, leadership development events, state convention, summer leadership camp
Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl The purpose of the bowl is to encourage the love of reading as well as teach & promote team building skills. Mrs. Megan Ryall The students will read from a list of ten selected books for the reading bowl. The team members will read both independently and with Mrs. Ryall during their lunch time as well as any other agreed upon time. The students will create question/answer lists for the books they read and will share them with Mrs. Ryall. The question/answer database will be used to practice for the reading bowl competition. We will attend the bowl in January.
Student Council To learn key leadership skills that increase communication between students and staff. Mrs. Valerie Lancaster Meetings weekly to learn leadership skills, red ribbon week planning and promotion, Christmas/Valentines grams, teacher appreciation planning and promotion, other activities to be determined by the club members.
Yearbook Club Our purpose is to provide the school with a yearbook that reflects the events and lives of our students, staff and the events of our school during that given year. Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Miller Students will learn to be photographers, graphic designers, and marketing planners throughout the school year. Activities include: compiling pictures of the people and events of our year, designing yearbook pages, writing articles, editing, and creating marketing materials and events.
