All about Mrs. Balenger

Greetings and Hello! As a seasoned veteran, I bring experience, content knowledge, and FUN to the classroom! In this class, you can expect challenges, hard work, thought provoking dialogue, and lots of learning. Did I mention laughter? We do a lot of that too! I am thrilled to start a new chapter here at BASA, teaching what I love the most--GA History. We will uncover the mysteries of history and learn about the famous people and places that make our state unique.

Now-a wee bit about me. I grew up in a small coastal town in North Carolina, and later moved to GA to raise my family. I currently live in Jefferson with my husband Joe, and our two dogs, Remy and Titan. I have two children, Christopher and Scarlett, as well as a son-in-law Sean, and twin granddaughers. In my free time I love to craft and garden. Sunflowers are my favorite flower, and Dunkin iced vanilla coffee keeps me sane!

I began my educational career in Clayton County, GA teaching 5th grade. Along the way, I have taught in Henry County, GA, overseas in the UAE, and settled in Barrow County four years ago as a 5th grade teacher at Holsenbeck.

I am a graduate of Brenau University with an undergraduate, master's and specialist degree in education. I currently hold certificate endorsements in middle grades ELA and Social Studies, Gifted education, and am a Georgia Teacher Support Specialist.

Most recently, I was honored to be chosen the Holsenbeck Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020.

I am now proud to call myself a BASA Blazer!
