Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses are the highest-rigor courses we offer in our school buildings. They are taught at a college-level. AP courses have substantial weight added when your GPA is calculated. Large colleges and universities want to see these courses on your transcript to consider you for admission.

    Ysheena Lyles
    Assistant Principal - BASA

    Ysheena Lyles was born and raised in Barrow County and is a proud graduate of Winder-Barrow High School. After being a GG Dogg, she went on to become a Blazer and pursue her undergraduate degree in Marketing and Public Relations from Valdosta State University. Ms. Lyles also holds two master's degrees, a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) from Valdosta State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) from Piedmont College. In May of 2023, she graduated with her Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Berry College.

    After working in the private sector, Ms. Lyles found her calling in education where she began her teaching career at Winder-Barrow Middle School where she taught English. 2024 will begin her 16th year in education. During that time she'sbeen at Bear Creek Middle School, the Center for Innovative Teaching, and now at Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy. Throughout her teaching career, Ms. Lyles has taught English, Science, and Social Studies and held positions as Innovative Learning Coach and Magnet Coordinator.

    Ms. Lyles has made education a part of her passion and purpose. Her goal is to make sure every child is seen, respected, and represented. She strives to build relationships with students and families while being an active member in her community. In her new role as Assistant Principal, she is excited to continue being Barrow BOLD in her approach to innovation in education while inspiring teachers and students to BLAZE the trail as well.

    Ms. Ysheena Lyles lives in Barrow County along with her amazing son, Khalil who keeps her busy with his sports and extracurricular activities. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., coaches volleyball at BASA, and volunteers her time and resources in various capacities in the community.
