New Principal named at Alternative Education Program

Eli Welch

The Board of Education named Dr. Eli Welch as the Principal of the Barrow County Alternative Education Program on January 7, 2020. Dr. Welch has served in education for 23 years total and has served in the role of teacher, assistant principal and principal. He is currently serving in his 16th year as principal for the middle school and high school level.

Dr. Welch served as an administrator in BCSS for nine years previously at Westside Middle School as assistant principal and principal. Additionally, Dr. Welch has been an adjunct professor in the college of education for Argosy University-Atlanta. He taught education leadership and instructional technology courses for masters and doctoral program. 

Dr. Welch earned a doctorate and education specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. He also earned an education specialist and master’s degree in Education Administration from Alabama State University after obtaining master’s degree in Mathematics Education and bachelor’s degree in computer science from Alabama State University. Dr. Welch has also received additional leadership training through Leadership Barrow and the GSSA Superintendents’ Professional Development Program.
