As we near the end of the 2024-2025 school year, we are so excited to celebrate another senior who exemplifies perseverance, determination, resilience, and growth, Ms. Eveny Diaz. At the start of her senior year, Eveny’s goal was clear: pass every class to become a “GG” graduate. And with just a few weeks left, she’s doing exactly what she set her mind to earlier this year: she is going to graduate!
Like many other students, Eveny got behind on her credits early on in high school. She faced challenges, struggled to advocate for herself, was easily distracted, and had a difficult time navigating the transition to high school. Instead of continuing down the same path, Eveny made the decision during her senior year that this year would be different. Graduating on time and pursuing her dream of becoming a tattoo artist – a career path that reflects her amazing artistic talent – was top priority for her this year.
Eveny drew inspiration from someone close to her: her sister, a 2023 Winder Barrow graduate, who also needed multiple credits to graduate. With the help of a dedicated support team and a ton of grit, her sister made it through. Watching her big sister overcome the odds showed Eveny that graduating on time was possible. She spent junior year beginning her transformation but then reached out for support during her senior year. Leaning on the same support team, she received encouragement and gave 100% in all her classes. The results speak for themselves: she currently has A’s and B’s in all her classes and is on track to walk across the 50-yard line in three weeks.
We are incredibly proud of Eveny – not only for her tremendous grades, but for the goal setting, determination and personal growth she has demonstrated this year. We are excited to see her chase her dreams and use the lessons she has learned-both in and out of the classroom-in her future endeavors. Her journey reminds us that with belief, support, and hard work, anything is possible. Congratulations Eveny!
