Student Transfer Request Form
Student Transfer Request Form
Under a 2009 state law, (O.C.G.A. 20-2-2131) often referred to as HB251, parents who live in Barrow County may request a transfer for their student to another public school within Barrow County, provided space is available. Current proof of residency must be attached/uploaded to the form.
DEADLINE: 11:59 P.M., FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2025
CONDITIONS:
- If you choose to transfer your student, the law requires the parent/guardian to assume all costs and responsibilities related to the transportation of the student to and from the school as long as the student attends that school.
- Placement applies for the entire year. Requests for change during the school year will not be considered.
- The law allows a student who transfers to continue to attend that school until the student completes all grades of the receiving school. Students do NOT need to be re-enrolled every year UNLESS a change is being made.
- A transferring student who completes all grades available at the receiving school DOES NOT automatically receive enrollment preference to any feeder school. When a student moves from elementary to middle school or middle to high school, a new form MUST be submitted.
- In the event a particular school has available space and the number of transfer requests exceeds the remaining available capacity, a random lottery will be implemented.
- Approval of a student for the current year does not guarantee approval of another student in the same family in subsequent years.
- Any student transferring under this law shall be subject to the eligibility requirements of the Georgia High School Association.
- The Principal of the receiving school may request the Superintendent to revoke the Transfer Request of any student for excessive disciplinary or attendance actions.
