Student Rights (Section 504)

Section 504, as it is often called, is a civil rights law that covers the rights of individuals with disabilities. It prohibits, among other things, discrimination on the basis of disability for students in public schools. Students eligible under Section 504 receive a plan that outlines how the student will be able to fully participate in the educational process despite potential disabilities and barriers.

Schools are required to provide appropriate, reasonable adaptations and modifications for 504 eligible students. Further information on Section 504 can be found in the supporting documents below and on the Office of Civil Rights webpage.
