Special Education Records Destruction Notice

Archived Special Education Records Scheduled for Destruction:

Barrow County School System has announced its intention to destroy special education records of students born before January 1, 1998.

These records are no longer needed for education planning purposes and will be destroyed November 20, 2020. The Barrow County School System will make the Special Education records available to the student or parent (with the student's permission) upon request to the school system's Special Educations Records Department. To request inactive Special Education records, call 770-867-4527 or email the records clerk, Sandy Bush, at sandy.bush@barrow.k12.ga.us. Please give at least 48 hours notice to have records ready for pick-up.

Identification will be required to receive these records.


Destruction of Special Education Records Policy Beginning July 2021

The Barrow County Public School System archives and stores special education student records from the Special Education Department for a limited time according to the Common Records Retention Schedules for school systems, under the Georgia Archives University System of Georgia. All special education records for students reaching the age of 22 years are scheduled for destruction after July of that calendar year.

Any person desiring to obtain his/her records may contact Sandy Bush, the Special Education Records Clerk, via email prior to July 15 at sandy.bush@barrow.k12.ga.us.
