The Barrow County Board of Education approved the student calendars for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years at their December 2 meeting.
The approval comes after the drafts were posted for public comment for 30 days on eBoard. A public survey, along with feedback from school administrators, teacher leaders, and School Governance Teams, helped determine the calendars. A majority of the responses were in favor of a full week for Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, and Spring Break, along with two weeks for Winter Break and finishing the school year by Memorial Day. To accommodate those requests and requests from many staff members to not start the first day back on a Monday, the first day of school had to be pushed to July to complete the first semester before Winter break. There are also no digital learning days for these future calendars.
There were 3,083 respondents to the survey. You can see a summary of the results through this link. You can also watch Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Dr. James Bowen's November 4 presentation and December 2 presentation to the Board concerning the calendars.
