The Barrow County Board of Education approved the student calendars for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years at their December 2 meeting.
The approval comes after the drafts were posted for public comment for 30 days on eBoard. A public survey, along with feedback from school administrators, teacher leaders, and School Governance Teams, helped determine the calendars. A majority of the responses were in favor of:
- A full week for Fall Break
- A full week for Thanksgiving Break
- A full week for Spring Break
- Two weeks for Winter Break
- Finishing the school year by Memorial Day
To accommodate those requests and requests from many staff members to not have the first day back be a Monday, the first day of school had to be pushed to July to complete the first semester before Winter Break. There are also no digital learning days for these future calendars.
