Staff Testimonials

Todd Chasarik
"Working for Barrow County Schools (BCSS) and the excellent ITS has been one of the most rewarding, fulfilling technician positions I have held in my 21-year career. Coming to Barrow from a massive New Jersey school district in 2017, I had no idea what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised and felt welcomed immediately. I felt immediately that I had a voice, acknowledged by my suggestions and concerns. Anything that comes up professionally or personally is heard by leadership, with everyone in ITS lending support and assistance. It is easily the best work environment I have ever been a part of.

The Barrow ITS leadership has demonstrated a strong support of the technicians and networking team, ranging from professional development to equipment to do the job efficiently and correctly. The level of trust from ITS leadership is apparent since each technician is allowed to work at their own pace and logic without any interference unless the tasks are not completed in an efficient manner. This makes the learning curve less pressured.

My colleagues in the department aren’t just my co-workers but they are family. We all get along, lend support to each other, and learn from each other. Teamwork is personified within the walls of Barrow ITS. Teamwork and support are facets of the perfect work/life balance possible, something I was definitely lacking.

At the end of the day, it about enhancing the student experience and it is rewarding to know that I am part of the process to make their experience the best it could be. Seeing the fascinated and joyous reactions of the students as you repair a damaged piece of equipment is rewarding, it’s hard not smile in those situations.”

Shea Daniel:

"I love how every day when I go to work, I feel like I am going home and am with family. I appreciate how supportive everyone is, and how 'family comes first' is not a buzz word, but something actively practiced. The entire tech department is invested in not just providing the best environment for teachers and students, but also for bettering ourselves as techs."

Ashley Parham:

“The faculty and staff in BCSS are amazing and it’s so fulfilling to be part of the team. Working in educational IT means that every day you have the opportunity to do something that will make a difference. Helping teachers do what they do best is such a rewarding job.”

Dylan Sample:

"When I sit back and really evaluate how I feel working here, there are a few things that come to mind.

Community - Having colleagues that share the same focus of creating a secure and ideal learning environment via technology makes you feel like your problems aren’t just yours but rather that they are a district problem that you can share with a team allowing for various perspectives allowing for the best solution. Because of the teamwork nature of ITS, your voice is always heard, opinions are respected and considered, and you can implement positive change.

Fulfillment - Knowing that my work doesn’t stop at just fixing a broken computer or answering what may seem like a silly question, but that what I do impacts teachers, administrators and students that are all working together to create a better future.

Work-life balance - Working for the public sector does come with its benefits of having many holidays off and a generous time off accrual. This is really a place where we all can agree that family comes first. Having administrators and colleagues that remember each of us is human does go a long way. I never want to take people’s understanding and kindness for granted.

TL;DR - Colleagues are chill, helping kids learn feels good, and having coworkers and bosses that will be there for you when you need them is awesome."
