BCSS Student Earns 2nd Place in State Tar Wars Poster Contest

Mary Frempong - Tar Wars State 2nd Place

Congratulations to Mary Frempong from the Arts & Innovation Magnet Program for earning 2nd place in the state-level Tar Wars Poster Contest! Mary’s poster was one of thousands submitted from across Georgia.

Tar Wars is a tobacco-free education program for 4th and 5th grade students. Earlier this month, Dr. Dallas LeDuff, BCSS Tar Wars Program sponsor John Neidenbach, and Sunita Singh of Northeast Georgia Medical Center Barrow recognized Mary as the 2nd place Tar Wars poster winner for the Barrow County School System.

"It is an honor to work on the BCSS Tar Wars project each year. I am always amazed at our students' creativity in the Poster Contest. I am so proud of how these young students pledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle," said Caitlin Maynard, BCSS Instructional Technology Integration Specialist.

We are thrilled to celebrate Mary’s achievement at the state-level competition!

"The Georgia Healthy Family Alliance was thrilled to celebrate Mary Frempong as the 2nd place winner in the annual Tar Wars State Poster Contest. The contest is meant to help students use their creativity to show the importance of a tobacco-free lifestyle, and we felt that Mary's colorful design exceeded expectations! Mary's poster, along with the other state contest winners, will be displayed at our Annual Meeting," said Lauren Shamblin, Senior Manager, Georgia Healthy Family Alliance.
