Student leaders from across Barrow County Schools gathered at Camp Twin Lakes this past week for the annual Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Officer Retreat. Officers representing FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, DECA, and TSA came together to plan, collaborate, and build the leadership skills needed to guide their chapters throughout the upcoming school year.
The retreat provided a mix of strategic planning sessions and team-building activities. Officers worked alongside advisors to set organizational goals, develop event calendars, and brainstorm ways to engage members at their respective schools.
A highlight of the retreat was the high ropes course, where students learned to overcome challenges, trust their teammates, and strengthen their communication skills. Many described the experience as both exciting and transformative, pushing them out of their comfort zones while reinforcing the importance of teamwork and resilience.
“Our CTSO officers are the backbone of our student organizations,” said CTAE Director Dr. Jennifer Wood. “This retreat allows them to bond with leaders from other schools, sharpen their leadership skills, and return ready to make a positive impact on their chapters and the community.”
By the end of the retreat, officers left with clear action plans, stronger connections, and a renewed sense of purpose. Barrow County Schools is proud of the commitment these student leaders show to advancing both their personal growth and the opportunities available to their peers through CTSOs.
