Pre-K Lottery Drawing

All complete applications submitted for each Pre-K class will be assigned a lottery number based on the elementary school attendance zone. After you submit your online application, it may take up to three business days to receive your lottery number. Our staff must verify the information provided and then email you with your child's lottery number.

Families with more than one child eligible for Pre-K will be assigned one number and the siblings will be drawn together. The lottery consists of random drawings from all applicants within that elementary school attendance zone. Ten separate lottery drawings will be held to determine the class lists and waiting lists for each elementary school. Each drawing will be pre-recorded. Links to view the drawings will be posted below after 1 p.m. April 17, 2024.

Starting in the 2024-2025 school year, the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) will reduce the Pre-K Class sizes from 22 students to 20 students per class. The number of Pre-K classes at each school will be determined based on the number of Pre-K Lottery applications and factors such as available space and funding. The Pre-K Classes will be drawn by using one of two ways based on the needs of the school. By drawing class A and Class B (20 students per class) or by drawing 40 students and the school will place the students in their Pre-K Classes.

All families submitting Pre-K Lottery applications will be notified by email whether their child is on a Pre-K class list or on a waiting list.

Waiting List Information

Any openings that become available in the Pre-K classes will be filled using the waiting list from that school attendance zone. (The order of the waiting list is determined by the remaining students drawn in the lottery.) The Pre-K Director will keep documentation on file of the progression of the waiting lists.

If your child was not in the BCSS Pre-K Lottery in April, please email Margrette Bailey or call 770-867-4527 Ext. 100133 to provide the information needed to complete a BCSS Pre-K waiting list form. Once that information is provided, Margrette will place your child on the Pre-K waiting list for your child’s elementary school attendance zone.
