Safety Message from BCSS & BCSO

BCSS Family,

We need your help, please. Over the weekend, Barrow County Sheriff Deputies responded to reports of students who said they were “playing a game” that involved them wearing masks and holding toy guns at various locations around the community.

Sheriff Jud Smith and I write to you today to stress the consequences and results that can come with such behaviors – even if intended as a “game.” Please talk with your student about participating in activities like this that may incite fear, cause concern, or even put their own safety at risk if someone doesn’t realize what they were doing was intended as a “game.”

We’d also like to remind our community that not only can students face charges depending on the nature of the incident, but the BCSS Student Code of Conduct also can apply to off-school property at any time if a student’s behavior poses a threat to the safety of others or disrupts the safe and orderly operation of a school. Toy guns are included in the list of inappropriate or unapproved items.

Thank you for your continued partnership to help ensure safety and protect the well-being of our children.

Dr. Dallas LeDuff & Sheriff Jud Smith
