New Employee Assistance Program Counselor: Cassonia Henley, LPC

Cassonia Henley - Employee Assistance Program Counselor

Apalachee High School staff can receive mental health support from a full-time, in-house Employee Assistance Counselor thanks to a partnership with the Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS).

Cassonia Henley brings five years of experience across school settings, private practice, and community-based programs. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2023 and currently serves as an Employee Assistance Program Counselor with NGHS. She has been supporting AHS staff since May 2025.

In her role, Cassonia offers free individual, group, and couples therapy to staff and their adult family members. She is committed to creating a safe, welcoming space for emotional growth, healing, and recovery.

“In my time at Apalachee, I’ve learned how important it is to show up as my authentic self to meet others where they are—whether they’re navigating trauma, grief, or everyday stressors. I keep a quote in my office that says, ‘Give yourself permission to relearn living, because survival taught you habits peace no longer requires.’ It’s a reminder to embrace therapeutic change and overcome adversity.”

Cassonia's educational background includes:

  • B.S. in Psychology from Georgia Southern University (2018)
  • M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Augusta University (2020)
