My name is Benjamin Braaten, and I am looking forward to my 2nd year at Apalachee High School.

I spent 6 years as a middle school and high school science teacher and coach in New Mexico. I taught earth science, physical science,  environmental biology, astronomy, geology, anatomy & physiology I and II. During this time, I was a head boys varsity soccer coach and assistant boys’ basketball coach and an assistant softball coach.

My family moved to Polk County Florida in 2002. I was a high school teacher from 2002-2013 including two years teaching STEM science in an elementary school.  In additional to teaching I was a head girls basketball coach, head girls soccer coach and an athletic director.  From 2006-2011 I was the head women’s basketball coach at Webber International University.

In 2013, my family moved to Columbus, GA where I worked at Northside H.S. for one year and then Jordan Vocational High School for four years. At Jordan, I was the head boys’ basketball coach, science coach and School Improvement Grant administrator.

We moved to the Atlanta area in the fall of 2018 where I started working at Dunwoody H.S. There, I was an academic coach, athletic director, AP test coordinator for the first three years and then I moved into the PE department in 2021. I was also the head boys’ basketball coach at Dunwoody from 2019-2023.

My wife, Rebecca, and I have been married for 26 years and we have four children. Our daughters, Jordyn and McKenzie, work in the film industry, our son Scott is a sophomore at Georgia State, and Evan will beattending Apalachee High as a 9th grader.
