Free Chromebook & Internet Access for Eligible Students

In June 2021, BCSS conducted a survey for students that needed internet service and/or Chromebooks for at-home use. Over 4,000 families requested devices, and we used the survey responses to submit a grant to the Emergency Connectivity Fund. We were awarded grant funds and purchased Chromebooks. Internet hotspots were also provided to us for distribution.

BCSS has been contacting families since March 28 asking them to pick up the Chromebook and/or hotspot that they requested. After April 23, all unclaimed devices will be allocated to families on a waitlist. The waitlist form was available until May 4th.

There is no cost to students or their families. Your child(ren) will be able to keep the device at home, including over the summer, until they graduate or transfer to another school district.

We anticipate distributing devices later in May, but we will email families in advance with complete details.

All devices will remain the property of BCSS, and each item will be checked out to individual students for use at home. By filling out this form, your child is not guaranteed to receive a device or service. This program is not related to digital or remote learning programs.

June 14, 2021 News:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear that all students should have access to the internet and a device to support their learning. Under the federal American Rescue Plan, the Emergency Connectivity Fund was established to help connect students to the internet with a device.

Through this program, the Barrow County School System will be able to purchase internet service and/or Chromebooks for off-campus use by students. There will be no cost to students or their families.

The Barrow County School System is conducting a survey to identify what specific students need a device and/or internet access. Only students/families that complete this 5-question survey by June 23, 2021, will be eligible to receive a Chromebook and/or internet access (such as a hotspot).
