Georgia’s Career Clusters allow students to choose an area of interest in high school from 17 different clusters. Students take classes tailored to their cluster, which helps them navigate their way to greater success –no matter what they choose to do after high school graduation. Each cluster will include multiple career pathways. The aim of the program is to show students the relevance of what they’re learning in the classroom, whether they want to attend a two-year college, a four-year university or go straight into the world of work. Students will begin to learn about potential careers in elementary and middle school so that they are ready to choose a pathway once they reach high school. Georgia’s initiative is based on the national Career Cluster model.
In this section, you will find a listing of all the Career, Technical and Agriculture Education (CTAE) Clusters and Pathways offered at the Sims Academy and the introductory classes offered at either Sims Academy, Apalachee High School, Winder Barrow High School or Snodon Preparatory School.
Three courses are required to complete each pathway and course descriptions are provided so you may develop a better understanding of how each class is structured. Please use this as a reference to begin thinking about which Pathway(s) you are interested in completing during your high school career. In many instances, more than one Pathway can be completed by graduation. For example: it is feasible for a student to complete all three of the Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Pathways we offer; a total of 7 courses.
When choosing a Pathway, consider not only the classes that sound interesting, but also think about your future career plans and the Pathways that will start you down the road towards pursuing that career. A list of potential careers is listed beside the Pathway course descriptions in each Cluster.
You can also view a brief summary of where classes will be offered on the Career Pathways Flyer or download the entire AHS or WBHS Career Pathways Booklet.
