Congratulations on working through our first week of Learning from Home!

Congratulations on working through our first week of Learning from Home! Here are three important updates we wanted to share with you.

Meals for Children

We now have two options to provide meals for students until April 3 - drive-thru and delivery.

DRIVE-THRU

The BCSS Nutrition Staff and volunteers are preparing all meals for children who are 18 and under. We encourage families to use the drive-thru to get the Grab-N-Go bags at Apalachee or Winder-Barrow High schools weekdays between 9am and 2pm.

DELIVERY

If you cannot pick up meals, you can sign up for meal delivery. Thank you to Bethlehem Church for coordinating the delivery logistics and the army of volunteers needed to help!

  • If your child needs meals delivered at home, sign up here. (Sign-up is only required once, not daily.)
  • If you’d like to volunteer to help deliver meals, sign up here.

Please remember to practice social distancing with our volunteers. Thank you.

Technology Support

BCSS has a limited number of devices available in schools, but we know some families do not have access to technology while we are learning from home. BCSS has been working all week to strategically identify students who may be in need. Schools will be contacting individual families throughout the weekend and arranging for device pick-up over the next week. If you are not contacted by Monday morning (March 23) and you still have a need, please email your child’s principal.

Since we only have a set number of devices, we will limit check-outs to one device per family. If you need access to the internet, please see our FAQ page to learn about free access for students from local providers.

Learning from Home

We understand the challenges some families are facing and do not want our learning from home activities to create additional stress. Please have students do what they can, when they can. Barrow County School System has made the decision to NOT ASSIGN any NEW work to students on Fridays.

  • For elementary school students, we have made the decision to provide learning activities for Monday-Thursday. Students who have completed choice board activities or assignments for Monday-Thursday are encouraged to use Fridays to read, use digital resources and learning games for reinforcement/enrichment, or spend some much-needed time getting fresh air outside. Week 2 choice board printed copies will be at each elementary school starting on Monday, March 23. You can pick one up at your child’s school or find it linked on our website now.
  • For middle and high school students, we will use Fridays as a day for students and staff to get caught up with the week's assignments and work. Students who have submitted assignments for the week can read, use digital resources for reinforcement/enrichment, or spend some much-needed time getting fresh air outside. Teachers will continue to be available on Fridays to help students get caught up on all assignments.

We appreciate your continued support, flexibility, and understanding. Take care.
