Barrow County School System students who took the SAT during the 2024-25 school year scored higher than in previous years and higher than the state and national averages. Along with an increase in mean score, BCSS also saw an increase in the number of students taking the test.
"We are proud of our students for their hard work and BOLD commitment to their learning. The increase in both participation and achievement on the SAT highlights the determination and growth of our students as well as the support of their teachers, families, and school leaders," said BCSS Chief Academic Officer Dr. Katherine Brown.
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) consists of two sections: Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (ERW) and Math. Scores are out of a total of 1600 points. The SAT measures what students learn in high school to determine readiness for college. Students typically take the test in the 11th and 12th grades. Barrow County high schools work with students and advise them on when to test and which test to take.
