BARROW SCHOOLS SEE GAINS IN CCRPI AT ALL LEVELS

Barrow County School System saw notable gains for the recently completed 2024-25 school year compared to prior years on the College & Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). The scores were released today by the Georgia Department of Education. The CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability measurement as required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

The state’s CCRPI formula, which is used to provide insights into a school district’s impact on improving college and career readiness, provides a comprehensive assessment of performance based on five key components. They include,

  • Content Mastery, which measures student performance on statewide assessments in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Progress, which measures student growth in English language arts and mathematics, as well as the advancement of English learners toward language proficiency.
  • Closing Gaps, which assesses how effectively schools are meeting improvement targets for student subgroups.
  • Readiness, which evaluates literacy scores, student attendance, participation in accelerated coursework, pathway completion, and college and career readiness, and
  • Graduation Rate, which accounts for the four-year and five-year graduation rates for high schools.

The table below summarizes the overall CCRPI scores by level for Barrow County across each domain. The change in points from the 2024 school year is shown in parentheses. Closing gaps are not directly comparable from 2024 to 2025 years because of changes to state math standards. High school scores should be interpreted with caution given the impact of the September 4, 2024, school shooting at Apalachee High School.

Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), each U.S. state is required to have a statewide accountability system that complies with federal requirements, providing information on how well schools are performing. The CCRPI meets that requirement in Georgia and satisfies requirements for school accountability in state law.

The CCRPI no longer includes an overall 0-100 score for schools, districts, or the state. Each CCRPI component still has a 0-100 score. This change was made to increase transparency and provide a more complete picture of school performance, ensuring that challenges and opportunities are not hidden behind a single score.

Legislation passed in 2024 requires the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) to calculate a single score for schools and districts and for GaDOE and local school districts to publish these scores online. These scores will be published at some point later in the school year.
