Academic Letter Awards

Students become eligible for an Academic Letter during the Fall of their sophomore year. Eligibility requirements (described below) are considered based on the first semester of the current academic year and both semesters of the preceding academic year. 

Academic letter applications are due in the Counseling & Career Center on or before the first Monday of March for the current school year.

BCSS Academic Letter Application

Students must meet 100% of these requirements:
  • Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 91% unweighted in all academic courses and have received no grades lower than 75%. A copy of the student’s transcript must be attached to the application. The student is to request a transcript from his/her counselor.
  • Successful completion of at least three Honors, Advanced Placement, or Dual Enrollment courses each school year.
  • Students must have zero out-of-school suspensions.
Students must also meet two or more of the following requirements:
  • Represent and/or win an academic championship or contest at the regional, state, or national level.
  • Be a participating member of an academic society.
  • Make a 3 or better on an AP examination.
  • Receive a perfect score on a section of a standardized test such as EOC, ACT, PSAT, or SAT.
  • Make a 1200 or higher on the SAT or a 26 or higher composite score on the ACT.
  • Be a school-level, or greater, winner of an academic contest, which may include, but is not limited to the following:
    • Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition
    • Laws of Life
    • Governor’s Honors Program

 

  • After the initial year the academic letter is earned, students will receive academic bars for subsequent recognitions.
  • Letters and bars will be awarded to qualified student applicants during the respective honors programs in the Spring.
  • Students must apply to be eligible to earn the academic letter as outlined in the requirements listed above.
  • Students are responsible for the purchase of a letter jacket if one is desired. Academic lettering does not result in a graduation cord.
