Notice of Property Tax Increase & Public Hearings

The Barrow County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 7.79 percent.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Barrow County Board of Education, 179 West Athens Street, Winder, GA 30680 on June 18, 2026, at 10:00 am and 11:00 am.
Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at the Barrow County Board of Education, 179 West Athens Street, Winder, GA 30680 on June 25, 2026, at 6:00 pm.
This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 15.55 mills, an increase of 1.124 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 14.426 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $325,000.00 is approximately $143.87 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $325,000.00 is approximately $146.12.
100% of the increase in taxes will be used to fund educator pay which will attract and retain quality teachers to support and grow student academic success. Commercial and Industrial parcel values increased by 19%, which is a substantial portion of the 7.79% increase and it lessens the burden on our residential taxpayers.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The millage rate will be set at a meeting to be held at Board of Education, 179 West Athens St., Winder on July 7, 2026 at 6:00 pm.
